2023 Halloween Special: Don’t Play This Game
This Halloween season, Side Character Quest is teaming up with Parable Games (makers of the horror tabletop roleplaying game Shiver) to demo their new entry into the horror genre: Don’t Play This Game.
A mock-up of Don’t Play This Game’s gamebook, dice, and various spooky stuff.
DPTG is a unique legacy solo horror experience that has players live out their own found footage horror movie. Although this is a solo game, players are invited to pass the record they create while playing to a new victim, who then has to pick up the curse where the first player left off.
On October 13th, we will be releasing Ty’s playthrough of DPTG, dramatized and sound designed to recreate the feeling Ty had when playing the game himself. Listeners are encouraged to pick up where his story leaves off, continuing the legacy in their own playthrough of Don’t Play This Game. Click here for resources.

Parable Games has provided Side Character Quest with a free demo of the game but is otherwise not sponsoring this episode. Special thanks to friends of the show Morgan Spatola and Dan Spencer for their help brainstorming this project. Watch for more information on future projects.

Show: Finish It!
Episode: EP. 221. CREEPTOBSCARE ’22: COULD YOU BE A DEER WITH TY!
When/Where: Whenever you want, wherever you listen to podcasts!
Since Matt (one of the hosts of Finish It!) is out this week, Ty is filling in!
The shadow of Creetobscare grows long as Ty from Side Character Quest joins us to find out if we could be a deer! What could be spookier?! Three deer? DON’T BE RIDICULOUS! Ty gets stuck in deer Groundhog Day, rutting territory is disputed, and vegetation is munched.
Also, Ty brings a homerun D&D style quiz adventure that is NOT TO BE MISSED. Dracula has kidnapped Matt, and Chris must use his ttrpg skills top set him free! Sorry Matt!
Each week, Matt Ty and Chris read through an interactive fiction book. Their goal? Read every page and every ending of every book, until they have died or gone mad. Or until they’ve “finished it,” I guess.
For Ty’s second episode, the crew reads through Survival: Could you be a Deer?
